A STORY PASSED DOWN THROUGH GENERATIONS...
A Little Mouse Tail is the story of mouse family’s picnic adventure. It was told to us by our grandfather, who learnt it from his father, and his grandfather; going back 6 generations that we know of.
My father told me recently of a day at the beach he spent with my grandfather in his final years. He was deeply affected by Alzheimer’s disease .
For anyone who has witnessed a path into Alzheimer’s they will know only too well the devastating effects it has on personality and memory. However for all those dark days, sufferers with Alzheimer’s can often demonstrate surprising moments of clarity, albeit too briefly.
For some time now, the conversations had become one sided. As one of my father’s many efforts to engage, he started to recite the Mouse’s Tail and to his complete amazement my grandfather took over and finished the story… then went back to his ice-cream.
This story has been beautifully brought to life through the illustrations of artist Kathleen Wilson. This has enabled us to create a children’s book, whose message can now be enjoyed by many and in doing so can raise both money and awareness to help fight Alzheimer’s disease in Australia and New Zealand.
The number of Australians and New Zealanders with Alzheimers and the various forms of dementia is set to double over 20 years. An estimated 36 million people are living with these diseases throughout the world.
